Pictured taken during my visit to various grottoes in China, showing the surrouding environment, affiliated architectures, carving, mural, and sculptures. There are hundreds of grottoes in China, ranging from small ones wiht few caves to large ones with hundreds of caves. The tradition of constructing grottoes originated from India, and along with the introduction of Buddhism, grottoes got prosperous starting from 4th century, and gradually decayed in Song dynasty (960-1279 A.D). It is a pity that many of these grottoes were severely damaged by art collectors during the early 20 century.
